Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last few weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cold nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than turning in at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself before calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters every 30 days. If you don’t, they can end up clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but verify the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your heating equipment will still not turn on, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 407-329-7661 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
