What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Orlando always talks about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it actually mean?

NATE is an abbreviation for North American Technician Excellence and, as stated on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be NATE-certified. The certification is discretionary and technicians can work in the heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration industry without being NATE-certified.

It’s important to Service Experts that our team is NATE-certified to be sure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure professionals meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The assessments are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only specific areas applicable to our technicians. NATE test candidates may receive installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
