Service Experts of Raleigh Helps Man Go Above and Beyond for His Neighbor

June 29, 2016

Last month, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning of Raleigh got a call from a man named Jimmy from the Raleigh community who told us about a very exciting project he was in the midst of for his neighbor Kyla.

Kyla Tracy is an exceptional 9 year old who was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, sometimes referred to as brittle bone disease. She relies on a wheelchair to get around and her house was not wheelchair friendly, due in large part to the size of the chair. When Jimmy realized the problem, he thought about remodeling the Tracy family’s home to make it entirely wheel-chair accessible. But because of the age of the home, remodeling was going to be more work than he realized. Looking for another way, Jimmy thought about converting the Tracy family’s carport into a wheelchair accessible living area, which would contain Kyla’s own bedroom, bathroom, playroom, and kitchen area.

Thrilled to have a working plan, Jimmy began contacting local contractors, including plumbers, electricians, and building supply companies and all of them said they would be honored to help and provide services and supplies. He asked Service Experts of Raleigh for the heating and AC portion of Kyla’s new apartment. Our Service Experts team members went to Kyla’s home to ask more about the renovation and were blown away by how smart and sweet Kyla was and they knew they had to be involved.

Kyla’s father, Jared Tracy, said he had planned to pay for the $12,000 HVAC system for Kyla’s new living area, but with the help of Lennox and RE Michel, the team at Service Experts was able to hand Kyla’s family a bill that said:

“We are honored to present you with a full HVAC (heating and air conditioning) system at no charge as long as we can all have hugs.”

The staff at Service Experts of Raleigh were over the moon to help provide such an extraordinary girl with a much-deserved place for her to live that accommodates her wheelchair and allows her to move around safely and efficiently. But it’s not over yet. The Tracy family is fundraising to purchase a wheel-chair accessible van to better transport their family. To find out more or to donate to Kyla’s van, please go to their GoFundMe account.
