When the Dallas and Fort Worth Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) chose to sponsor the Walk MS events in Addison and Fort Worth, they had the idea to offer a product to the event participants.
“Service Experts felt an APCO Air Purifier was the ideal product to auction off since this spring Service Experts has been promoting saving the air, and it helps remove germs and contaminants from your air that can aggravate allergies and respiratory ailments,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck was the winner of the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when she bid the highest at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first found out about the APCO several months before when she saw an article regarding the importance of indoor air quality.
“I didn’t think much about it at the time because I didn’t understand its compatibility with just about any HVAC system, and figured it was another one of those “luxuries” that was beyond my budget. When it came up at the Walk MS event, everyone was talking about the seriousness of good indoor air quality for MS sufferers and I immediately thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was 91 and had been living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for over twenty years. For the past four years he had been on oxygen constantly, 24/7/365.
“The allergens in his home’s air aggravated him even though I always installed the more expensive 3M Filtrate brand of air filters. They just didn’t help. He repeatedly caught pneumonia but he had only left to go out over the past four years to visit his doctors.”
The pneumonia meant Kim’s father spent a minimum of two months in the hospital and rehabilitation facility. Just prior to the Walk MS event in Dallas, Kim’s father had spent three weeks in the hospital and two days at the rehab facility recuperating from two strings of pneumonia. After watching her father go through so much, Kim said she was willing to “roll the dice” and bid on the APCO, which would both help her dad get access to “clean” air, and also benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was elated when she found out she won and planned on having the APCO installed in her father’s home before he was released from the rehab center. Regrettably, three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father was taken home to hospice care and passed away peacefully just a few days later. The APCO arrived the following week.
Kim decided to have the APCO installed in her own house since her husband suffers from allergies. Shortly after it was put in, she was cooking onions and realized she couldn’t smell any odors once she finished. She’s looking forward to seeing long-term effects of the system.
All of us here at Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning are keeping Kim and her family in our thoughts and prayers.
