Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer hasn’t quite made its debut but the temperatures are definitely warming up and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the temperatures soar and you’re running your air conditioning unit constantly to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your air conditioning technician to come out and conduct your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to an air conditioning tune-up, there are several other ways you can get your home ready for the cooling season before higher temperatures are officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the space around your unit to clear away twigs and leaves that have made their way to your air conditioning unit during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the system and cut back any overgrown plants or vegetation to make sure your cooling equipment is clear of debris. Keeping a clear airway can help keep your A/C equipment running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will change your home’s basic air filters when they complete your air conditioning tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also swap out your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s advised that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. An unchanged filter accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your regular A/C system service. Remember, a clogged filter could actually damage your A/C system.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or suffering from sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t spend daylight savings checking the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors, now it the perfect time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is working properly so you don’t end up calling your HVAC company because your air conditioner isn’t working and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider investing in a programmable thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your energy bills.

A seasonal AC tune-up service could make your air conditioner up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills.
