How to Avoid Expensive AC Repairs

August 18, 2015

When you think about the ‘Dog Days of Summer’ in Orlando, chances are that you might find yourself dreaming about a perfectly chilled home to arrive to when you walk in the door from work. Of course for some homeowners, the harsh reality is that they arrive home with a busted air conditioner and now must deal with an AC repair. So what can you do to get through those seemingly unending, scorching days without maxing out your air conditioner?

  1. Reduce use of appliances that create heat. Of course you can’t completely discontinue the use of your oven and stove, but being mindful of their uses may help more than you would think. Avoid using heat-generating appliances during the warmest parts of the day as your air conditioner will more than likely already be working hard to keep your home cool.

  2. Keep your blinds and shades closed. Windows can let in a great deal of heat if your window coverings aren’t taken advantage of, and considering the temperatures in Orlando, your home can warm up pretty quickly. If you’re heading to work or are just gone for a few hours, make sure to keep your blinds and shades closed to keep any extra heat out.

  3. Use fans. While fans don’t actually alter air temperature, they do circulate air and help keep your home feeling comfortable. However, make sure you turn fans off in rooms that aren’t being used since they don’t lower the air temperature.

Even as it may seem like the steamiest days in Orlando are ahead, Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is here to make sure that you can relax comfortably in your home.
