Common Orlando AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We previously told you about a few of the most common air conditioning problems Orlando faces, but now we’re going to talk to you about some common air conditioner troubles that you can help troubleshoot.

The A/C is on but not releasing cool air.

If your air conditioning system is running but not truly cooling, you may need to have your refrigerant levels inspected. Refrigerant is required to make sure the air coming out of your AC is actually cool and keeps your family comfortable. Low refrigerant is commonly a sign of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

One way to see if you are low on refrigerant is to go to your A/C system and locate the two copper pipes. If the large one is “sweating” or producing condensation, put your hand on the pipe and feel if it’s cold. If it is, you are most likely good to go and do not need extra refrigerant.

If you’re unsure or the pipe is not covered in condensation and is not cold when you place your hand on it, call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning and we’ll come out and check your refrigerant levels and find out why your air conditioner is not blowing cool air. Keep in mind, only an EPA Certified technician should work on refrigerant for central air conditioners, due to the risks of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t rotating.

There are several reasons your condenser fan isn’t rotating. One is that it just burned out and you have to get a replacement. Humidity generally causes more condensation so another issue could be that the water is not draining properly or that the drain is blocked. If you can look for these things, you may be able to locate the problem; but, if not, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call and we can find out what has stopped your condenser fan from rotating and review your options to get your air conditioner problem corrected.

Your air conditioner is not providing adequate air cooling.

It sounds crazy, but try decreasing the temperature on your thermostat. It seems ridiculous but sometimes our busy lives cause us to forget the obvious. If that doesn’t get your system working right, check and get a new air filter. If the air filter is clogged, it could cause serious cooling troubles. Another thing that could result in your lack of cooling is an air conditioner that is not sized correctly, and unfortunately this is an all-too-common issue when homes are constructed. Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is happy to come out and do an analysis to determine if the size of your A/C system is causing your troubles.

Air Conditioner shuts on and off repeatedly

If your A/C system is short cycling, or turning on or off consistently, it could mean one of several things. One option is that your condenser or evaporator is obstructed or dirty and in need of cleaning. Once the system is cleaned and all obstructions moved away, you may be back to a regular running system. Note that humidity also plays a role so if your house cools to the proper temperatures, but then the humidity causes your house to heat up quickly, this could cause an on-again, off-again system because it’s having to work harder to keep your home cool and comfortable.

No matter your problem, whatever common or uncommon AC problem you run into, Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is here for you all day, everyday. We are available to you so we can get your A/C cooling and get your home comfortable lickety-split.
